We think we know what it means.
That story. The one we know from
the book of Genesis:
A Garden, a serpent, a tree, a naked woman and man.
The apple was never there, but added for a painter’s ruby poisoned globe, a scepter with which to Blame:
Undocumented refugees
Right wing evangelicals
Liberal queers
Welfare queens.
East Coast elites.
West Coast Socialists.
Cast as shards for fear and retaliation.
But two creation stories exist.
What about the first ?
Chapter One Genesis: “In the beginning”
The older one.
That story of
A lonely God
With a hunger for Light
in the midnight floor of heaven
A desire for birds
with sunlight on their fleet red-capped wings
A longing for fish
singing melodies from the depths of the sea,
Female and Male,
Rising forth
Both from the Image of God
with exquisite beauty,
on the same day.
Before the seventh-
A day for gratitude.
A day for praise:
For it is Good.
All creation.
GOOD.
